Deuteronomy 20:15-21:9

15 verses

Deuteronomy Chapter 20

15Thus you shall do to all the cities which are very far off from you, which are not of the cities of these nations.

16But of the cities of these peoples, that ForeverOne your God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes; 17but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; as ForeverOne your God has commanded you; 18that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods; so would you sin against ForeverOne your God.

19When you shall besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an axe against them; for you may eat of them, and you shall not cut them down; for is the tree of the field man, that it should be besieged of you?

20Only the trees of which you know that they are not trees for food, you shall destroy and cut them down; and you shall build bulwarks against the city that makes war with you, until it fall.

Deuteronomy Chapter 21

1If one be found slain in the land which ForeverOne your God gives you to possess it, lying in the field, and it isn't known who has struck him; 2then your elders and your judges shall come forth, and they shall measure to the cities which are around him who is slain: 3and it shall be, that the city which is nearest to the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer of the herd, which hasn't been worked with, and which has not drawn in the yoke; 4and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer's neck there in the valley.

5The priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them ForeverOne your God has chosen to minister to him, and to bless in the name of ForeverOne; and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be.

6All the elders of that city, who are nearest to the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley; 7and they shall answer and say, "Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

8Forgive, ForeverOne, your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and don't allow innocent blood [to remain] in the midst of your people Israel." The blood shall be forgiven them.

9So you shall put away the innocent blood from the midst of you, when you shall do that which is right in the eyes of ForeverOne.

Amos 6:12-8:3

23 verses

Amos Chapter 6

12Do horses run on the rocky crags? Does one plow there with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness; 13you who rejoice in a thing of nothing, who say, 'Haven't we taken for ourselves horns by our own strength?' 14For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, house of Israel," says ForeverOne, the God of Armies; "and they will afflict you from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah."

Amos Chapter 7

1Thus the Lord ForeverOne showed me: and behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and behold, it was the latter growth after the king's harvest.

2It happened that, when they made an end of eating the plants of the land, then I said, "Lord ForeverOne, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small." 3ForeverOne relented concerning this. "It shall not be," says ForeverOne.

4Thus the Lord ForeverOne showed me and behold, the Lord ForeverOne called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land.

5Then I said, "Lord ForeverOne, stop, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small." 6ForeverOne relented concerning this. "This also shall not be," says the Lord ForeverOne.

7Thus he showed me and behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.

8ForeverOne said to me, "Amos, what do you see?" I said, "A plumb line." Then the Lord said, "Behold, I will set a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.

9The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword." 10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, "Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

11For Amos says, 'Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.'" 12Amaziah also said to Amos, "You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: 13but don't prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a royal house!" 14Then Amos answered Amaziah, "I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs; 15and ForeverOne took me from following the flock, and ForeverOne said to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.' 16Now therefore listen to the word of ForeverOne: 'You say, Don't prophesy against Israel, and don't preach against the house of Isaac.' 17Therefore thus says ForeverOne: 'Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.'"

Amos Chapter 8

1Thus the Lord ForeverOne showed me: behold, a basket of summer fruit.

2He said, "Amos, what do you see?" I said, "A basket of summer fruit." Then ForeverOne said to me, "The end has come on my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.

3The songs of the temple will be wailings in that day," says the Lord ForeverOne. "The dead bodies will be many. In every place they will throw them out with silence.

Section 3

Lamentations 2:20-3:30

33 verses

Lamentations Chapter 2

20Look, ForeverOne, and see to whom you have done thus! Shall the women eat their fruit, the children that are dandled in the hands? Shall the priest and the prophet be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?

21The youth and the old man lie on the ground in the streets; My virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword: You have killed them in the day of your anger; you have slaughtered, [and] not pitied.

22You have called, as in the day of a solemn assembly, my terrors on every side; There was none that escaped or remained in the day of ForeverOne's anger: Those that I have dandled and brought up has my enemy consumed.

Lamentations Chapter 3

1I am the man that has seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

2He has led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.

3Surely against me he turns his hand again and again all the day.

4My flesh and my skin has he made old; he has broken my bones.

5He has built against me, and surrounded me with gall and travail.

6He has made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.

7He has walled me about, that I can't go forth; he has made my chain heavy.

8Yes, when I cry, and call for help, he shuts out my prayer.

9He has walled up my ways with cut stone; he has made my paths crooked.

10He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.

11He has turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he has made me desolate.

12He has bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

13He has caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my kidneys.

14I am become a derision to all my people, and their song all the day.

15He has filled me with bitterness, he has sated me with wormwood.

16He has also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he has covered me with ashes.

17You have removed my soul far off from peace; I forgot prosperity.

18I said, My strength is perished, and my expectation from ForeverOne.

19Remember my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

20My soul still remembers them, and is bowed down within me.

21This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope.

22[It is of] ForeverOne's loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn't fail.

23They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

24ForeverOne is my portion, says my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25ForeverOne is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.

26It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of ForeverOne.

27It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

28Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he has laid it on him.

29Let him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.

30Let him give his cheek to him who strikes him; let him be filled full with reproach.

Section 4

1 John 5

21 verses

1 John Chapter 5

1Whoever believes that Jesus is the AnointedOne has been born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him.

2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.

3For this is loving God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous.

4For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.

5Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

6This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus AnointedOne; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

7[*For there are three who testify:] 8[*the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one.] 9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God's testimony which he has testified concerning his Son.

10He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn't believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.

11The testimony is this, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn't have God's Son doesn't have the life.

13These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

14This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.

15And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

16If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I don't say that he should make a request concerning this.

17All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.

18We know that whoever is born of God doesn't sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn't touch him.

19We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

20We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus AnointedOne. This is the true God and eternal life.

21Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
