Genesis 32:1-12

12 verses

Genesis Chapter 32

1Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

2When he saw them, Jacob said, "This is God's army." He called the name of that place Mahanaim.

3Jacob sent messengers in front of him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.

4He commanded them, saying, "This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau: 'This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.

5I have cattle, donkeys, flocks, male servants, and female servants. I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.'" 6The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, "We came to your brother Esau. Not only that, but he comes to meet you, and four hundred men with him." 7Then Jacob was greatly afraid and was distressed. He divided the people who were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two companies; 8and he said, "If Esau comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape." 9Jacob said, "God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, ForeverOne, who said to me, 'Return to your country, and to your relatives, and I will do you good,' 10I am not worthy of the least of all the loving kindnesses, and of all the truth, which you have shown to your servant; for with just my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I have become two companies.

11Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he come and strike me, and the mothers with the children.

12You said, 'I will surely do you good, and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which can't be numbered because there are so many.'"

1 Samuel 3:19-4:22

1 Samuel Chapter 3

19Samuel grew, and ForeverOne was with him, and let none of his words fall to the ground.

20All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of ForeverOne.

21ForeverOne appeared again in Shiloh; for ForeverOne revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of ForeverOne.

1 Samuel Chapter 4

1The word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and encamped beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines encamped in Aphek.

2The Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was struck before the Philistines; and they killed of the army in the field about four thousand men.

3When the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has ForeverOne struck us today before the Philistines? Let us get the ark of the covenant of ForeverOne out of Shiloh to us, that it may come among us, and save us out of the hand of our enemies." 4So the people sent to Shiloh; and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of ForeverOne of Armies, who sits [above] the cherubim: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

5When the ark of the covenant of ForeverOne came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.

6When the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, "What does the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?" They understood that the ark of ForeverOne had come into the camp.

7The Philistines were afraid, for they said, "god has come into the camp." They said, "Woe to us! For there has not been such a thing before.

8Woe to us! Who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods that struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.

9Be strong, and behave like men, O you Philistines, that you not be servants to the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Strengthen yourselves like men, and fight!" 10The Philistines fought, and Israel was struck, and they fled every man to his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.

11The ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

12There ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day, with his clothes torn, and with earth on his head.

13When he came, behold, Eli was sitting on his seat by the road watching; for his heart trembled for the ark of God. When the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.

14When Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, "What does the noise of this tumult mean?" The man hurried, and came and told Eli.

15Now Eli was ninety-eight years old; and his eyes were set, so that he could not see.

16The man said to Eli, "I am he who came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army." He said, "How did the matter go, my son?" 17He who brought the news answered, "Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured." 18It happened, when he made mention of the ark of God, that Eli fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate; and his neck broke, and he died; for he was an old man, and heavy. He had judged Israel forty years.

19His daughter-in-law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered. When she heard the news that the ark of God was taken, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and brought forth; for her pains came on her.

20About the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her, "Don't be afraid; for you have brought forth a son." But she didn't answer, neither did she regard it.

21She named the child Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel;" because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father-in-law and her husband.

22She said, "The glory has departed from Israel; for the ark of God is taken."

2 Chronicles 3:11-4:10

17 verses

2 Chronicles Chapter 3

11The wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits long: the wing of the one [cherub] was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was [likewise] five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub.

12The wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was five cubits [also], joining to the wing of the other cherub.

13The wings of these cherubim spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were toward the house.

14He made the veil of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and ornamented it with cherubim.

15Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty-five cubits high, and the capital that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.

16He made chains in the oracle, and put [them] on the tops of the pillars; and he made one hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.

17He set up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.

2 Chronicles Chapter 4

1Then he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits its length, and twenty cubits its breadth, and ten cubits its height.

2Also he made the molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass; and its height was five cubits; and a line of thirty cubits encircled it.

3Under it was the likeness of oxen, which encircled it, for ten cubits, encircling the sea. The oxen were in two rows, cast when it was cast.

4It stood on twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set on them above, and all their hinder parts were inward.

5It was a handbreadth thick; and its brim was worked like the brim of a cup, like the flower of a lily: it received and held three thousand baths.

6He made also ten basins, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them; such things as belonged to the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.

7He made the ten lampstands of gold according to the ordinance concerning them; and he set them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left.

8He made also ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right side, and five on the left. He made one hundred basins of gold.

9Furthermore he made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court, and overlaid the doors of them with brass.

10He set the sea on the right side [of the house] eastward, toward the south.

Mark 4:1-25

Mark Chapter 4

1Again he began to teach by the seaside. A great multitude was gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat in the sea, and sat down. All the multitude were on the land by the sea.

2He taught them many things in parables, and told them in his teaching, 3"Listen! Behold, the farmer went out to sow, 4and as he sowed, some seed fell by the road, and the birds came and devoured it.

5Others fell on the rocky ground, where it had little soil, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil.

6When the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

7Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

8Others fell into the good ground, and yielded fruit, growing up and increasing. Some produced thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times as much." 9He said, "Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear." 10When he was alone, those who were around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.

11He said to them, "To you is given the mystery of God's Kingdom, but to those who are outside, all things are done in parables, 12that 'seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest perhaps they should turn again, and their sins should be forgiven them.'" 13He said to them, "Don't you understand this parable? How will you understand all of the parables?

14The farmer sows the word.

15The ones by the road are the ones where the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately Satan comes, and takes away the word which has been sown in them.

16These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.

17They have no root in themselves, but are short-lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

18Others are those who are sown among the thorns. These are those who have heard the word, 19and the cares of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

20Those which were sown on the good ground are those who hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, some thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times." 21He said to them, "Is the lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Isn't it put on a stand?

22For there is nothing hidden, except that it should be made known; neither was anything made secret, but that it should come to light.

23If any man has ears to hear, let him hear." 24He said to them, "Take heed what you hear. With whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you, and more will be given to you who hear.

25For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he who doesn't have, even that which he has will be taken away from him."
