Genesis Chapter 25

²⁹Jacob boiled stew. Esau came in from the field, and he was famished.

³⁰Esau said to Jacob, "Please feed me with some of that red stew, for I am famished." Therefore his name was called Edom.

³¹Jacob said, "First, sell me your birthright." ³²Esau said, "Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?" ³³Jacob said, "Swear to me first." He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob.

³⁴Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.

Genesis Chapter 26

¹There was a famine in the land, in addition to the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

²ForeverOne appeared to him, and said, "Don't go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.

³Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and to your offspring; and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

⁴I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and will give all these lands to your offspring. In your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed, ⁵because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws." ⁶Isaac lived in Gerar.

⁷The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, "She is my sister," for he was afraid to say, "My wife", thinking, "the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at." ⁸When he had been there a long time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out of a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.

⁹Abimelech called Isaac, and said, "Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, 'She is my sister'?" Isaac said to him, "Because I said, 'Lest I die because of her.'" ¹⁰Abimelech said, "What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!" ¹¹Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, "He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death."

Judges Chapter 11

³⁴Jephthah came to Mizpah to his house; and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances: and she was his only child; besides her he had neither son nor daughter.

³⁵When he saw her, he tore his clothes, and said, "Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you are one of those who trouble me; for I have opened my mouth to ForeverOne, and I can't go back." ³⁶She said to him, "My father, you have opened your mouth to ForeverOne; do to me according to what has proceeded out of your mouth, because ForeverOne has taken vengeance for you on your enemies, even on the children of Ammon." ³⁷She said to her father, "Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may depart and go down on the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions." ³⁸He said, "Go." He sent her away for two months: and she departed, she and her companions, and mourned her virginity on the mountains.

³⁹At the end of two months she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed, and she was a virgin. It was a custom in Israel, ⁴⁰that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.

Judges Chapter 12

¹The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, "Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didn't call us to go with you? We will burn your house around you with fire!" ²Jephthah said to them, "I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn't save me out of their hand.

³When I saw that you didn't save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and ForeverOne delivered them into my hand. Then why have you come up to me today, to fight against me?" ⁴Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, "You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, [and] in the midst of Manasseh." ⁵The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. When [any of] the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said to him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" If he said, "No;" ⁶then they said to him, "Now say 'Shibboleth;'" and he said "Sibboleth;" for he couldn't manage to pronounce it right: then they laid hold of him, and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time, forty-two thousand of Ephraim fell.

⁷Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gilead.

⁸After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

⁹He had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. He judged Israel seven years.

¹⁰Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem.

¹¹After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

¹²Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

¹³After him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.

¹⁴He had forty sons and thirty sons' sons, who rode on seventy donkey colts: and he judged Israel eight years.

¹⁵Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.

Judges Chapter 13

¹The children of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of ForeverOne; and ForeverOne delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

²There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and didn't bear.

³The angel of ForeverOne appeared to the woman, and said to her, "See now, you are barren, and don't bear; but you shall conceive, and bear a son.

⁴Now therefore please beware and drink no wine nor strong drink, and don't eat any unclean thing: ⁵for, behold, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb: and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines."

1 Chronicles Chapter 23

¹Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

²He gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

³The Levites were counted from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.

⁴David said, "Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of ForeverOne; six thousand were officers and judges; ⁵four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised ForeverOne with the instruments which I made, for giving praise." ⁶David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

⁷Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

⁸The sons of Ladan were Jehiel the chief, Zetham and Joel, three [in all].

⁹The sons of Shimei were Shelomoth, Haziel and Haran, three [in all]. These were the heads of the fathers' [houses] of Ladan.

¹⁰The sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zina, Jeush and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

¹¹Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah didn't have many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning.

¹²The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel, four [in all].

¹³The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before ForeverOne, to minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever.

¹⁴But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.

¹⁵The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.

¹⁶The sons of Gershom were Shebuel the chief.

¹⁷Eliezer's son was Rehabiah the chief. Although Eliezer had no other sons Rehabiah had very many sons.

¹⁸The sons of Izhar were Shelomith the chief.

¹⁹The sons of Hebron were Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

²⁰The sons of Uzziel were Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

²¹The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish.

²²Eleazar died, and had no sons, but only daughters; and their brothers the sons of Kish took them [as wives].

²³The sons of Mushi were Mahli, Eder and Jeremoth, three [in all].

Matthew Chapter 25

¹"Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

²Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

³Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, ⁴but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

⁵Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

⁶But at midnight there was a cry, 'Behold! The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him!' ⁷Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

⁸The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' ⁹But the wise answered, saying, 'What if there isn't enough for us and you? You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' ¹⁰While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut.

¹¹Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open up for us.' ¹²But he answered, 'Most certainly I tell you, I don't know you.' ¹³So watch, for you don't know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

¹⁴"For it is like a man going into another country, who called his own servants and entrusted his goods to them.

¹⁵To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his own ability. Then he went on his journey.

¹⁶Immediately he who received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.

¹⁷In the same way, he also who got the two gained another two.

¹⁸But he who received the one went away and dug in the earth and hid his master's money.

¹⁹"Now after a long time the master of those servants came, and settled accounts with them.

²⁰He who received the five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'master, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained another five talents in addition to them.' ²¹"His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.' ²²"He who got the two talents also came and said, 'Master, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained another two talents in addition to them.' ²³"His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.'
