Exodus Chapter 5

¹⁰The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, "This is what Pharaoh says: 'I will not give you straw.

¹¹Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your work shall be diminished.'" ¹²So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.

¹³The taskmasters were urgent saying, "Fulfill your work quota daily, as when there was straw!" ¹⁴The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, "Why haven't you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?" ¹⁵Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, "Why do you deal this way with your servants?

¹⁶No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us, 'Make brick!' and behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people." ¹⁷But he said, "You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, 'Let us go and sacrifice to ForeverOne.' ¹⁸Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks!" ¹⁹The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble, when it was said, "Don't diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks!" ²⁰They met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came out from Pharaoh: ²¹and they said to them, "May ForeverOne look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us." ²²Moses returned to ForeverOne, and said, "LordOfMine, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me?

²³For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people. You have not rescued your people at all!"

2 Samuel Chapter 14

²⁵Now in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

²⁶When he cut the hair of his head (now it was at every year's end that he cut it; because it was heavy on him, therefore he cut it); he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels, after the king's weight.

²⁷To Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: she was a woman of a beautiful face.

²⁸Absalom lived two full years in Jerusalem; and he didn't see the king's face.

²⁹Then Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king; but he would not come to him: and he sent again a second time, but he would not come.

³⁰Therefore he said to his servants, "Behold, Joab's field is near mine, and he has barley there. Go and set it on fire." Absalom's servants set the field on fire.

³¹Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom to his house, and said to him, "Why have your servants set my field on fire?" ³²Absalom answered Joab, "Behold, I sent to you, saying, 'Come here, that I may send you to the king, to say, "Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still. Now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there is iniquity in me, let him kill me."'" ³³So Joab came to the king, and told him; and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king kissed Absalom.

2 Samuel Chapter 15

¹After this, Absalom prepared him a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him.

²Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate. When any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called to him, and said, "What city are you from?" He said, "Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel." ³Absalom said to him, "Behold, your matters are good and right; but there is no man deputized by the king to hear you." ⁴Absalom said moreover, "Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who has any suit or cause might come to me, and I would do him justice!" ⁵When any man came near to show him respect, he reach out his hand, and took hold of him, and kissed him.

⁶Absalom did this sort of thing to all Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

⁷At the end of forty years Absalom said to the king, "Please let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to ForeverOne, in Hebron.

⁸For your servant vowed a vow while I stayed at Geshur in Syria, saying, 'If ForeverOne shall indeed bring me again to Jerusalem, then I will serve ForeverOne.'" ⁹The king said to him, "Go in peace." So he arose, and went to Hebron.

¹⁰But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, 'Absalom is king in Hebron!'" ¹¹Two hundred men went with Absalom out of Jerusalem, who were invited, and went in their simplicity; and they didn't know anything.

¹²Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

¹³A messenger came to David, saying, "The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom." ¹⁴David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, "Arise, and let us flee; for else none of us shall escape from Absalom. Make speed to depart, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil on us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword." ¹⁵The king's servants said to the king, "Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king chooses." ¹⁶The king went out, and all his household after him. The king left ten women, who were concubines, to keep the house.

¹⁷The king went out, and all the people after him; and they stayed in Beth Merhak.

¹⁸All his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.

2 Chronicles Chapter 33

¹⁸Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of ForeverOne, the God of Israel, behold, they are written among the acts of the kings of Israel.

¹⁹His prayer also, and how [God] was entreated of him, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places in which he built high places, and set up the Asherim and the engraved images, before he humbled himself: behold, they are written in the history of Hozai.

²⁰So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house: and Amon his son reigned in his place.

²¹Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.

²²He did what was evil in the sight of ForeverOne, as Manasseh his father had; and Amon sacrificed to all the engraved images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them.

²³He didn't humble himself before ForeverOne, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but this same Amon trespassed more and more.

²⁴His servants conspired against him, and put him to death in his own house.

²⁵But the people of the land killed all those who had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his place.

2 Chronicles Chapter 34

¹Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

²He did what was right in the eyes of ForeverOne, and walked in the ways of David his father, and didn't turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

³For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images.

⁴They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and the incense altars that were on high above them he cut down; and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it on the graves [of those] who had sacrificed to them.

⁵He burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.

⁶[He did this] in the cities of Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even to Naphtali, around in their ruins.

⁷He broke down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the engraved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.

⁸Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of ForeverOne his God.

⁹They came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

¹⁰They delivered it into the hand of the workmen who had the oversight of the house of ForeverOne; and the workmen who labored in the house of ForeverOne gave it to mend and repair the house; ¹¹even to the carpenters and to the builders gave they it, to buy cut stone, and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

Luke Chapter 8

¹⁶"No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a container, or puts it under a bed; but puts it on a stand, that those who enter in may see the light.

¹⁷For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed; nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

¹⁸So be careful how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever doesn't have, from him will be taken away even what he thinks he has." ¹⁹His mother and brothers came to him, and they could not come near him for the crowd.

²⁰Some people told him, "Your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to see you." ²¹But he answered them, "My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God, and do it." ²²Now on one of those days, he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples, and he said to them, "Let's go over to the other side of the lake." So they launched out.

²³But as they sailed, he fell asleep. A wind storm came down on the lake, and they were taking on dangerous amounts of water.

²⁴They came to him, and awoke him, saying, "Master, master, we are dying!" He awoke, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and it was calm.

²⁵He said to them, "Where is your faith?" Being afraid they marveled, saying to one another, "Who is this then, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?" ²⁶Then they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee.

²⁷When Jesus stepped ashore, a certain man out of the city who had demons for a long time met him. He wore no clothes, and didn't live in a house, but in the tombs.

²⁸When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, "What do I have to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don't torment me!" ²⁹For Jesus was commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For the unclean spirit had often seized the man. He was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters. Breaking the bonds apart, he was driven by the demon into the desert.

³⁰Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" He said, "Legion," for many demons had entered into him.

³¹They begged him that he would not command them to go into the abyss.

³²Now there was there a herd of many pigs feeding on the mountain, and they begged him that he would allow them to enter into those. Then he allowed them.

³³The demons came out of the man, and entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake, and were drowned.

³⁴When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country.

³⁵People went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus' feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.

³⁶Those who saw it told them how he who had been possessed by demons was healed.
