Genesis 37:18-36

Genesis Chapter 37

18They saw him at a distance, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him.

19They said one to another, "Behold, the 'master of dreams' comes.

20Come now therefore, and let's kill him, and throw him into one of the pits, and we will say, 'An evil animal has devoured him.' We will see what will become of his dreams." 21Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand, and said, "Let's not take his life." 22Reuben said to them, "Shed no blood. Throw him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand on him" - that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.

23When Joseph came to his brothers they stripped Joseph of his coat, the coat of many colors that was on him; 24and they took him, and threw him into the pit. The pit was empty. There was no water in it.

25They sat down to eat bread, and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites was coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

26Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood?

27Come, and let's sell him to the Ishmaelites, and not let our hand be on him; for he is our brother, our flesh." His brothers listened to him.

28Midianites who were merchants passed by, and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. They brought Joseph into Egypt.

29Reuben returned to the pit; and saw that Joseph wasn't in the pit; and he tore his clothes.

30He returned to his brothers, and said, "The child is no more; and I, where will I go?" 31They took Joseph's coat, and killed a male goat, and dipped the coat in the blood.

32They took the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their father, and said, "We have found this. Examine it, now, whether it is your son's coat or not." 33He recognized it, and said, "It is my son's coat. An evil animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn in pieces." 34Jacob tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days.

35All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. He said, "For I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning." His father wept for him.

36The Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, the captain of the guard.

1 Samuel 14:31-52

22 verses

1 Samuel Chapter 14

31They struck of the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. The people were very faint; 32and the people flew on the spoil, and took sheep, and cattle, and calves, and killed them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood.

33Then they told Saul, saying, "Behold, the people are sinning against ForeverOne, in that they eat meat with the blood." He said, "You have dealt treacherously. Roll a large stone to me today!" 34Saul said, "Disperse yourselves among the people, and tell them, 'Bring me here every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and kill them here, and eat; and don't sin against ForeverOne in eating meat with the blood.'" All the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and killed them there.

35Saul built an altar to ForeverOne. This was the first altar that he built to ForeverOne.

36Saul said, "Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them." They said, "Do whatever seems good to you." Then the priest said, "Let us draw near here to God." 37Saul asked counsel of God, "Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?" But he didn't answer him that day.

38Saul said, "Draw near here, all you chiefs of the people; and know and see in which this sin has been today.

39For, as ForeverOne lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die." But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.

40Then he said to all Israel, "You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side." The people said to Saul, "Do what seems good to you." 41Therefore Saul said to ForeverOne, the God of Israel, "Show the right." Jonathan and Saul were chosen; but the people escaped.

42Saul said, "Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son." Jonathan was selected.

43Then Saul said to Jonathan, "Tell me what you have done!" Jonathan told him, and said, "I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; and behold, I must die." 44Saul said, "God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan." 45The people said to Saul, "Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! As ForeverOne lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has worked with God today!" So the people rescued Jonathan, that he didn't die.

46Then Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.

47Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and wherever he turned himself, he put [them] to the worse.

48He did valiantly, and struck the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of those who despoiled them.

49Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishvi, and Malchishua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal: 50and the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the captain of his army was Abner the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.

51Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.

52 There was severe war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him to him.

Section 3

2 Chronicles 10:12-11:12

20 verses

2 Chronicles Chapter 10

12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, "Come to me again the third day." 13The king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men, 14and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions." 15So the king didn't listen to the people; for it was brought about of God, that ForeverOne might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16When all Israel saw that the king didn't listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, "What portion have we in David? Neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse! Every man to your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David." So all Israel departed to their tents.

17But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and the children of Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam made speed to get himself up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

19So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.

2 Chronicles Chapter 11

1When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

2But the word of ForeverOne came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, 3"Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying, 4'Thus says ForeverOne, "You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers! Return every man to his house; for this thing is of me."'" So they listened to the words of ForeverOne, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

5Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

6He built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa, 7Beth Zur, and Soco, and Adullam, 8and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph, 9and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah, 10and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

11He fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine.

12In every city [he put] shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

Mark 9:9-29

Mark Chapter 9

9As they were coming down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should tell no one what things they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

10They kept this saying to themselves, questioning what the "rising from the dead" meant.

11They asked him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" 12He said to them, "Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised?

13But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they have also done to him whatever they wanted to, even as it is written about him." 14Coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude around them, and scribes questioning them.

15Immediately all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him greeted him.

16He asked the scribes, "What are you asking them?" 17One of the multitude answered, "Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit; 18and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth, and wastes away. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren't able." 19He answered him, "Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me." 20They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.

21He asked his father, "How long has it been since this has come to him?" He said, "From childhood.

22Often it has thrown him into either fire or water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us." 23Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes." 24Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, "I do believe. Help my unbelief!" 25When Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, "You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!" 26After crying out and convulsing him greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead, so much that most of them said, "He is dead." 27But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose.

28When he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we cast it out?" 29He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing, except by prayer and fasting."
