Genesis 23:12-24:9

18 verses

Genesis Chapter 23

12Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land.

13He spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, "But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there." 14Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him, 15"My lord, listen to me. What is a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver between me and you? Therefore bury your dead." 16Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the hearing of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants' standard.

17So the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all of its borders, were deeded 18to Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

19After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (that is, Hebron), in the land of Canaan.

20The field, and the cave that is in it, were deeded to Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the children of Heth.

Genesis Chapter 24

1Abraham was old, and well advanced in age. ForeverOne had blessed Abraham in all things.

2Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his house, who ruled over all that he had, "Please put your hand under my thigh.

3I will make you swear by ForeverOne, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you won't get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live.

4But you shall go to my country, and to my relatives, and get a wife for my son Isaac." 5The servant said to him, "What if the woman isn't willing to follow me to this land? Must I bring your son again to the land you came from?" 6Abraham said to him, "Beware that you don't bring my son there again.

7ForeverOne, the God of heaven- who took me from my father's house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, 'I will give this land to your offspring.'- he will send his angel before you, and you shall get a wife for my son from there.

8But if the woman isn't willing to follow you, then you shall be free from this oath to me. Only you must not take my son there." 9The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.

Judges 7:19-8:17

24 verses

Judges Chapter 7

19So Gideon, and the hundred men who were with him, came to the outermost part of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, when they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and broke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.

20The three groups blew the trumpets, and broke the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands with which to blow; and they shouted, "The sword of ForeverOne and of Gideon!" 21They stood every man in his place around the camp; and all the army ran; and they shouted, and put [them] to flight.

22They blew the three hundred trumpets, and ForeverOne set every man's sword against his fellow, and against all the army; and the army fled as far as Beth Shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath.

23The men of Israel were gathered together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued Midian.

24Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, "Come down against Midian, and take before them the waters, as far as Beth Barah, even the Jordan!" So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and took the waters as far as Beth Barah, even the Jordan.

25They took the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and they killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they killed at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian: and they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan.

Judges Chapter 8

1The men of Ephraim said to him, "Why have you treated us this way, that you didn't call us, when you went to fight with Midian?" They rebuked him sharply.

2He said to them, "What have I now done in comparison with you? Isn't the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

3God has delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb! What was I able to do in comparison with you?" Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

4Gideon came to the Jordan, [and] passed over, he, and the three hundred men who were with him, faint, yet pursuing.

5He said to the men of Succoth, "Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian." 6The princes of Succoth said, "Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?" 7Gideon said, "Therefore when ForeverOne has delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers." 8He went up there to Penuel, and spoke to them in the same way; and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.

9He spoke also to the men of Penuel, saying, "When I return in peace, I will break down this tower." 10Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the children of the east; for there fell one hundred twenty thousand men who drew sword.

11Gideon went up along the road of those who lived in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and struck the army; for the army was secure.

12Zebah and Zalmunna fled; and he pursued them; and he took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and confused all the army.

13Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle from the ascent of Heres.

14He caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he described for him the princes of Succoth, and its elders, seventy-seven men.

15He came to the men of Succoth, and said, "See Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, 'Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?'" 16He took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

17He broke down the tower of Penuel, and killed the men of the city.

1 Chronicles 17:24-18:13

17 verses

1 Chronicles Chapter 17

24Let your name be established and magnified forever, saying, 'ForeverOne of Armies is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel. The house of David your servant is established before you.' 25For you, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build him a house. Therefore your servant has found courage to pray before you.

26Now, ForeverOne, you are God, and have promised this good thing to your servant.

27Now it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, ForeverOne, have blessed, and it is blessed forever."

1 Chronicles Chapter 18

1After this David struck the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

2He struck Moab; and the Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute.

3David struck Hadadezer king of Zobah to Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

4David took from him one thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for one hundred chariots.

5When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck of the Syrians twenty-two thousand men.

6Then David put [garrisons] in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. ForeverOne gave victory to David wherever he went.

7David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

8From Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took very much brass, with which Solomon made the bronze sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.

9When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah, 10he sent Hadoram his son to king David, to Greet him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him; (for Hadadezer had wars with Tou;) and [he had with him] all kinds of vessels of gold and silver and brass.

11These also king David dedicated to ForeverOne, with the silver and the gold that he carried away from all the nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

12Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah struck of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt eighteen thousand.

13He put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became servants to David. ForeverOne gave victory to David wherever he went.

Section 4

Matthew 21:33-22:14

28 verses

Matthew Chapter 21

33"Hear another parable. There was a man who was a householder who planted a vineyard, set a hedge about it, dug a winepress in it, built a tower, leased it out to farmers, and went into another country.

34When the season for the fruit came near, he sent his servants to the farmers to receive his fruit.

35The farmers took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

36Again, he sent other servants more than the first; and they treated them the same way.

37But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, 'They will respect my son.' 38But the farmers, when they saw the son, said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him and seize his inheritance.' 39So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard, then killed him.

40So when the master of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?" 41They told him, "He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will lease out the vineyard to other farmers who will give him the fruit in its season." 42Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'The stone which the builders rejected was made the head of the corner. This was from ForeverOne. It is marvelous in our eyes'?

43"So I tell you, God's Kingdom will be taken away from you and will be given to a nation producing its fruit.

44He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but on whomever it will fall, it will scatter him as dust." 45When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke about them.

46When they sought to seize him, they feared the multitudes, because they considered him to be a prophet.

Matthew Chapter 22

1Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, saying, 2"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a wedding feast for his son, 3and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.

4Again he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding feast!"' 5But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise; 6and the rest grabbed his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.

7When the king heard that, he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8"Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren't worthy.

9So go to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the wedding feast.' 10Those servants went out into the highways and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.

11"But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn't have on wedding clothing, 12and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?' He was speechless.

13Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.' 14For many are called, but few chosen."
