Genesis 19:12-26

Genesis Chapter 19

12The men said to Lot, "Do you have anybody else here? Sons-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whoever you have in the city, bring them out of the place: 13for we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before ForeverOne so that ForeverOne has sent us to destroy it." 14Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, "Get up! Get out of this place, for ForeverOne will destroy the city!" But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.

15When the morning came, then the angels hurried Lot, saying, "Get up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the iniquity of the city." 16But he lingered; and the men grabbed his hand, his wife's hand, and his two daughters' hands, ForeverOne being merciful to him; and they took him out, and set him outside of the city.

17It came to pass, when they had taken them out, that he said, "Escape for your life! Don't look behind you, and don't stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be consumed!" 18Lot said to them, "Oh, not so, my lord.

19See now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your loving kindness, which you have shown to me in saving my life. I can't escape to the mountain, lest evil overtake me, and I die.

20See now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a little one. Oh let me escape there (isn't it a little one?), and my soul will live." 21He said to him, "Behold, I have granted your request concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.

22Hurry, escape there, for I can't do anything until you get there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar.

24Then ForeverOne rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah sulfur and fire from ForeverOne out of the sky.

25He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.

26But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

Judges 1:29-2:17

25 verses

Judges Chapter 1

29Ephraim didn't drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.

30Zebulun didn't drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.

31Asher didn't drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob; 32but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.

33Naphtali didn't drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor.

34The Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill country; for they would not allow them to come down to the valley; 35but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to forced labor.

36The border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

Judges Chapter 2

1The angel of ForeverOne came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, "I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to your fathers; and I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you: 2and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.' But you have not listened to my voice: why have you done this?

3Therefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be [as thorns] in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you." 4When the angel of ForeverOne spoke these words to all the children of Israel, the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

5They called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there to ForeverOne.

6Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel went every man to his inheritance to possess the land.

7The people served ForeverOne all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of ForeverOne that he had worked for Israel.

8Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of ForeverOne, died, being one hundred ten years old.

9They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath Heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.

10Also all that generation were gathered to their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, who didn't know ForeverOne, nor yet the work which he had worked for Israel.

11The children of Israel did what was evil in the sight of ForeverOne, and served the Baals; 12and they forsook ForeverOne, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them: and they provoked ForeverOne to anger.

13They forsook ForeverOne, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.

14The anger of ForeverOne was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers who despoiled them; and he sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

15Wherever they went out, the hand of ForeverOne was against them for evil, as ForeverOne had spoken, and as ForeverOne had sworn to them: and they were very distressed.

16ForeverOne raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who despoiled them.

17Yet they didn't listen to their judges; for they played the prostitute after other gods, and bowed themselves down to them: they turned aside quickly out of the way in which their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of ForeverOne; [but] they didn't do so.

Section 3

1 Chronicles 12:31-13:8

18 verses

1 Chronicles Chapter 12

31Of the half-tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, who were mentioned by name, to come and make David king.

32Of the children of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brothers were at their commandment.

33Of Zebulun, those who were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array, with all kinds of instruments of war, fifty thousand, and who could order [the battle array, and were] not of double heart.

34Of Naphtali one thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty-seven thousand.

35Of the Danites who could set the battle in array, twenty-eight thousand six hundred.

36Of Asher, those who were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array, forty thousand.

37On the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, with all kinds of instruments of war for the battle, one hundred twenty thousand.

38All these being men of war, who could order the battle array, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.

39They were there with David three days, eating and drinking; for their brothers had made preparation for them.

40Moreover those who were near to them, [even] as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on donkeys, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, food of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and cattle, and sheep in abundance: for there was joy in Israel.

1 Chronicles Chapter 13

1David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader.

2David said to all the assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to you, and if it is of ForeverOne our God, let us send abroad everywhere to our brothers who are left in all the land of Israel, with whom the priests and Levites are in their cities that have suburbs, that they may gather themselves to us; 3and let us bring again the ark of our God to us. For we didn't seek it in the days of Saul." 4All the assembly said that they would do so; for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

5So David assembled all Israel together, from the Shihor [the brook] of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim.

6David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, [that is], to Kiriath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God ForeverOne that sits [above] the cherubim, that is called by the Name.

7They carried the ark of God on a new cart, [and brought it] out of the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.

8David and all Israel played before God with all their might, even with songs, and with harps, and with stringed instruments, and with tambourines, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

Section 4

Matthew 17:22-18:11

17 verses

Matthew Chapter 17

22While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men, 23and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up." They were exceedingly sorry.

24When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coins came to Peter, and said, "Doesn't your teacher pay the didrachma?" 25He said, "Yes." When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?" 26Peter said to him, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Therefore the children are exempt.

27But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you."

Matthew Chapter 18

1In that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who then is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" 2Jesus called a little child to himself, and set him in the middle of them 3and said, "Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

4So, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

5Whoever receives one such little child in my name receives me, 6but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if a huge millstone were hung around his neck and that he were sunk in the depths of the sea.

7"Woe to the world because of occasions of stumbling! For it must be that the occasions come, but woe to that person through whom the occasion comes!

8If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled, rather than having two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire.

9If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be thrown into the Gehenna of fire.

10See that you don't despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.
