32These men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock, and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.' 33When Pharaoh summons you, and will say, 'What is your occupation?' 34that you shall say, 'Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers:' that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians."

1 Samuel 30:16-31:13

29 verses

1 Samuel Chapter 30

16When he had brought him down, behold, they were spread around over all the ground, eating, drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.

17David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped from there, except four hundred young men, who rode on camels and fled.

18David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken; and David rescued his two wives.

19There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor anything that they had taken to them. David brought back all.

20David took all the flocks and the herds, [which] they drove before those [other] livestock, and said, "This is David's spoil." 21David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went out to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.

22Then all the wicked men and base fellows, of those who went with David, answered and said, "Because they didn't go with us, we will not give them anything of the spoil that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away, and depart." 23Then David said, "You shall not do so, my brothers, with what ForeverOne has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.

24Who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who tarries by the baggage: they shall share alike." 25From that day forward he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.

26When David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil to the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, "Behold, a gift for you of the spoil of the enemies of ForeverOne." 27He sent it to those who were in Bethel, and to those who were in Ramoth of the South, and to those who were in Jattir, 28and to those who were in Aroer, and to those who were in Siphmoth, and to those who were in Eshtemoa, 29and to those who were in Racal, and to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to those who were in the cities of the Kenites, 30and to those who were in Hormah, and to those who were in Borashan, and to those who were in Athach, 31and to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men used to stay.

1 Samuel Chapter 31

1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.

2The Philistines followed hard on Saul and on his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

3The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archers.

4Then Saul said to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me!" But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.

5When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died with him.

6So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor bearer, and all his men, that same day together.

7When the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.

8The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

9They cut off his head, and stripped off his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to the house of their idols, and to the people.

10They put his armor in the house of the Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.

11When the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard concerning him what the Philistines had done to Saul, 12all the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth Shan; and they came to Jabesh, and burned them there.

13They took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

Section 3

2 Chronicles 24:23-25:10

15 verses

2 Chronicles Chapter 24

23At the end of the year, the army of the Syrians came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them to the king of Damascus.

24For the army of the Syrians came with a small group of men; and ForeverOne delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken ForeverOne, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.

25When they were departed for him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the city of David, but they didn't bury him in the tombs of the kings.

26These are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

27Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens [laid] on him, and the rebuilding of the house of God, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

2 Chronicles Chapter 25

1Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jehoaddan, of Jerusalem.

2He did what was right in the eyes of ForeverOne, but not with a perfect heart.

3Now when the kingdom was established to him, that he killed his servants who had killed the king his father.

4But he didn't put their children to death, but did according to what is written in the law in the book of Moses, as ForeverOne commanded, saying, "The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin." 5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and ordered them according to their fathers' houses, under captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, even all Judah and Benjamin: and he counted them from twenty years old and upward, and found them three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go out to war, who could handle spear and shield.

6He hired also one hundred thousand mighty men of valor out of Israel for one hundred talents of silver.

7A man of God came to him, saying, "O king, don't let the army of Israel go with you; for ForeverOne is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim.

8But if you will go, take action, be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow." 9Amaziah said to the man of God, "But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?" The man of God answered, "ForeverOne is able to give you much more than this." 10Then Amaziah separated them, [to wit], the army that had come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: therefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.

Luke 1:46-66

Luke Chapter 1

46Mary said, "My soul magnifies ForeverOne.

47My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior, 48for he has looked at the humble state of his servant. For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed.

49For he who is mighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name.

50His mercy is for generations and generations on those who fear him.

51He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

52He has put down princes from their thrones, and has exalted the lowly.

53He has filled the hungry with good things. He has sent the rich away empty-handed.

54He has given help to Israel, his servant, that he might remember mercy, 55as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring forever." 56Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her house.

57Now the time that Elizabeth should give birth was fulfilled, and she gave birth to a son.

58Her neighbors and her relatives heard that ForeverOne had magnified his mercy towards her, and they rejoiced with her.

59On the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.

60His mother answered, "Not so; but he will be called John." 61They said to her, "There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name." 62They made signs to his father, what he would have him called.

63He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, "His name is John." They all marveled.

64His mouth was opened immediately and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God.

65Fear came on all who lived around them, and all these sayings were talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea.

66All who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, "What then will this child be?" The hand of ForeverOne was with him.
