Genesis 43:26-44:5

Genesis Chapter 43

26When Joseph came home, they brought him the gift which was in their hand into the house, and bowed before him down to the ground.

27He asked them of their welfare, and said, "Is your father well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is he yet alive?" 28They said, "Your servant, our father, is well. He is still alive." They bowed their heads, and did homage.

29He lifted up his eyes, and saw Benjamin, his brother, his mother's son, and said, "Is this your youngest brother, of whom you spoke to me?" He said, "God be gracious to you, my son." 30Joseph hurried, for his heart yearned over his brother; and he sought a place to weep. He entered into his room, and wept there.

31He washed his face, and came out. He controlled himself, and said, "Serve the meal." 32They served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians, that ate with him, by themselves, because the Egyptians don't eat bread with the Hebrews, for that is an abomination to the Egyptians.

33They sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth, and the men marveled one with another.

34He sent portions to them from before him, but Benjamin's portion was five times as much as any of theirs. They drank, and were merry with him.

Genesis Chapter 44

1He commanded the steward of his house, saying, "Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put each man's money in his sack's mouth.

2Put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, with his grain money." He did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

3As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their donkeys.

4When they had gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said to his steward, "Up, follow after the men. When you overtake them, ask them, 'Why have you rewarded evil for good?

5Isn't this that from which my lord drinks, and by which he indeed divines? You have done evil in so doing.'"

1 Samuel 25:18-38

1 Samuel Chapter 25

18Then Abigail hurried and took two hundred loaves of bread, two bottles of wine, five sheep ready dressed, five measures of parched grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys.

19She said to her young men, "Go on before me. Behold, I come after you." But she didn't tell her husband, Nabal.

20As she rode on her donkey and came down by the covert of the mountain, behold, David and his men came down toward her; and she met them.

21Now David had said, "Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained to him. He has returned me evil for good.

22God do so to the enemies of David, and more also, if I leave of all that belongs to him by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall." 23When Abigail saw David, she hurried, and alighted from her donkey, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground.

24She fell at his feet, and said, "On me, my lord, on me be the iniquity; and please let your handmaid speak in your ears. Hear the words of your handmaid.

25Please don't let my lord regard this worthless fellow, even Nabal; for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and folly is with him; but I, your handmaid, didn't see the young men of my lord, whom you sent.

26Now therefore, my lord, as ForeverOne lives, and as your soul lives, since ForeverOne has withheld you from blood guiltiness, and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies, and those who seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.

27Now this gift which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord.

28Please forgive the trespass of your handmaid. For ForeverOne will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights the battles of ForeverOne; and evil shall not be found in you all your days.

29Though men may rise up to pursue you, and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with ForeverOne your God. He will sling out the souls of your enemies, as from the hollow of a sling.

30It shall come to pass, when ForeverOne has done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you, and shall have appointed you prince over Israel, 31that this shall be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. When ForeverOne has dealt well with my lord, then remember your handmaid." 32David said to Abigail, "Blessed is ForeverOne, the God of Israel, who sent you today to meet me!

33Blessed is your discretion, and blessed are you, that have kept me today from blood guiltiness, and from avenging myself with my own hand.

34For indeed, as ForeverOne, the God of Israel, lives, who has withheld me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, surely there wouldn't have been left to Nabal by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall." 35So David received of her hand what she had brought him: and he said to her, "Go up in peace to your house. Behold, I have listened to your voice, and have granted your request." 36Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken. Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.

37In the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.

38About ten days after, ForeverOne struck Nabal, so that he died.

2 Chronicles 21:1-17

17 verses

2 Chronicles Chapter 21

1Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

2He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

3Their father gave them great gifts, of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.

4Now when Jehoram was risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and various also of the princes of Israel.

5Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just like the house of Ahab had; for he took the daughter of Ahab [to be his] wife: and he did what was evil in the sight of ForeverOne.

7However ForeverOne would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a lamp to him and to his children always.

8In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.

9Then Jehoram passed over with his captains, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and struck the Edomites who surrounded him, along with the captains of the chariots.

10So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day: also at that time Libnah revolted from under his hand, because he had forsaken ForeverOne, the God of his fathers.

11Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the prostitute, and led Judah astray.

12A letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, "Thus says ForeverOne, the God of David your father, 'Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah, 13but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the prostitute, like the house of Ahab did, and also have slain your brothers of your father's house, who were better than yourself: 14behold, ForeverOne will strike with a great plague your people, and your children, and your wives, and all your substance; 15and you shall have great sickness by disease of your bowels, until your bowels fall out by reason of the sickness, day by day.'" 16ForeverOne stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians who are beside the Ethiopians: 17and they came up against Judah, and broke into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

Mark 15:1-21

Mark Chapter 15

1Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, bound Jesus, carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.

2Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered, "So you say." 3The chief priests accused him of many things.

4Pilate again asked him, "Have you no answer? See how many things they testify against you!" 5But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate marveled.

6Now at the feast he used to release to them one prisoner, whom they asked of him.

7There was one called Barabbas, bound with his fellow insurgents, men who in the insurrection had committed murder.

8The multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do as he always did for them.

9Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?" 10For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up.

11But the chief priests stirred up the multitude, that he should release Barabbas to them instead.

12Pilate again asked them, "What then should I do to him whom you call the King of the Jews?" 13They cried out again, "Crucify him!" 14Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they cried out exceedingly, "Crucify him!" 15Pilate, wishing to please the multitude, released Barabbas to them, and handed over Jesus, when he had flogged him, to be crucified.

16The soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole cohort.

17They clothed him with purple, and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on him.

18They began to salute him, "Hail, King of the Jews!" 19They struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and bowing their knees, did homage to him.

20When they had mocked him, they took the purple off him, and put his own garments on him. They led him out to crucify him.

21They compelled one passing by, coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might bear his cross.
