Genesis Chapter 11

¹⁰This is the history of the generations of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old when he became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood.

¹¹Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpachshad, and became the father of [more] sons and daughters.

¹²Arpachshad lived thirty-five years and became the father of Shelah.

¹³Arpachshad lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Shelah, and became the father of [more] sons and daughters.

¹⁴Shelah lived thirty years, and became the father of Eber.

¹⁵Shelah lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Eber, and became the father of [more] sons and daughters.

¹⁶Eber lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg.

¹⁷Eber lived four hundred thirty years after he became the father of Peleg, and became the father of [more] sons and daughters.

¹⁸Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Reu.

¹⁹Peleg lived two hundred nine years after he became the father of Reu, and became the father of [more] sons and daughters.

²⁰Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug.

²¹Reu lived two hundred seven years after he became the father of Serug, and became the father of [more] sons and daughters.

²²Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nahor.

²³Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor, and became the father of [more] sons and daughters.

²⁴Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah.

²⁵Nahor lived one hundred nineteen years after he became the father of Terah, and became the father of [more] sons and daughters.

²⁶Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

²⁷Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.

²⁸Haran died in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees, while his father Terah was still alive.

²⁹Abram and Nahor married wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, who was also the father of Iscah.

³⁰Sarai was barren. She had no child.

³¹Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife. They left together from Ur of the Chaldees, to go to the land of Canaan. But they came to Haran and settled there.

³²The days of Terah were two hundred five years. Terah died in Haran.

Joshua Chapter 15

¹³To Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of ForeverOne to Joshua, even Kiriath Arba, named after the father of Anak (which is Hebron).

¹⁴Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

¹⁵He went up against the inhabitants of Debir: now the name of Debir before was Kiriath Sepher.

¹⁶Caleb said, "He who strikes Kiriath Sepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter [to be his] wife." ¹⁷Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter [to be his] wife.

¹⁸When she came, she had him ask her father for a field. She got off of her donkey, and Caleb said, "What do you want?" ¹⁹She said, "Give me a blessing. Because you have set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water." He gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

²⁰This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.

²¹The farthest cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur, ²²Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah, ²³Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan, ²⁴Ziph, Telem, Bealoth, ²⁵Hazor Hadattah, Kerioth Hezron (which is Hazor), ²⁶Amam, Shema, Moladah, ²⁷Hazar Gaddah, Heshmon, Beth Pelet, ²⁸Hazar Shual, Beersheba, Biziothiah, ²⁹Baalah, Iim, Ezem, ³⁰Eltolad, Chesil, Hormah, ³¹Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah, ³²Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon. All the cities are twenty-nine, with their villages.

³³In the lowland, Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah, ³⁴Zanoah, En Gannim, Tappuah, Enam, ³⁵Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, Azekah, ³⁶Shaaraim, Adithaim and Gederah (or Gederothaim); fourteen cities with their villages.

³⁷Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal Gad, ³⁸Dilean, Mizpeh, Joktheel, ³⁹Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon, ⁴⁰Cabbon, Lahmam, Chitlish, ⁴¹Gederoth, Beth Dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages.

⁴²Libnah, Ether, Ashan, ⁴³Iphtah, Ashnah, Nezib, ⁴⁴Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages.

⁴⁵Ekron, with its towns and its villages; ⁴⁶from Ekron even to the sea, all that were by the side of Ashdod, with their villages.

⁴⁷Ashdod, its towns and its villages; Gaza, its towns and its villages; to the brook of Egypt, and the great sea with its coastline.

⁴⁸In the hill country, Shamir, Jattir, Socoh, ⁴⁹Dannah, Kiriath Sannah (which is Debir), ⁵⁰Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim, ⁵¹Goshen, Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages.

⁵²Arab, Dumah, Eshan, ⁵³Janim, Beth Tappuah, Aphekah, ⁵⁴Humtah, Kiriath Arba (which is Hebron), and Zior; nine cities with their villages.

⁵⁵Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Jutah, ⁵⁶Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah, ⁵⁷Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages.

⁵⁸Halhul, Beth Zur, Gedor, ⁵⁹Maarath, Beth Anoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages.

⁶⁰Kiriath Baal (which is Kiriath Jearim), and Rabbah; two cities with their villages.

⁶¹In the wilderness, Beth Arabah, Middin, Secacah, ⁶²Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En Gedi; six cities with their villages.

⁶³As for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah couldn't drive them out; but the Jebusites live with the children of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.

1 Chronicles Chapter 6

⁵⁴Now these are their dwelling places according to their encampments in their borders: to the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites (for theirs was the [first] lot), ⁵⁵to them they gave Hebron in the land of Judah, and its suburbs around it; ⁵⁶but the fields of the city, and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

⁵⁷To the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge, Hebron; Libnah also with its suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa with its suburbs, ⁵⁸and Hilen with its suburbs, Debir with its suburbs, ⁵⁹and Ashan with its suburbs, and Beth Shemesh with its suburbs; ⁶⁰and out of the tribe of Benjamin, Geba with its suburbs, and Allemeth with its suburbs, and Anathoth with its suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.

⁶¹To the rest of the sons of Kohath [were given] by lot, out of the family of the tribe, out of the half-tribe, the half of Manasseh, ten cities.

⁶²To the sons of Gershom, according to their families, out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

⁶³To the sons of Merari [were given] by lot, according to their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

⁶⁴The children of Israel gave to the Levites the cities with their suburbs.

⁶⁵They gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities which are mentioned by name.

⁶⁶Some of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their borders out of the tribe of Ephraim.

⁶⁷They gave to them the cities of refuge, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim with its suburbs; Gezer also with its suburbs, ⁶⁸and Jokmeam with its suburbs, and Beth Horon with its suburbs, ⁶⁹and Aijalon with its suburbs, and Gath Rimmon with its suburbs; ⁷⁰and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Aner with its suburbs, and Bileam with its suburbs, for the rest of the family of the sons of Kohath.

⁷¹To the sons of Gershom [were given], out of the family of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its suburbs, and Ashtaroth with its suburbs; ⁷²and out of the tribe of Issachar, Kedesh with its suburbs, Daberath with its suburbs, ⁷³and Ramoth with its suburbs, and Anem with its suburbs; ⁷⁴and out of the tribe of Asher, Mashal with its suburbs, and Abdon with its suburbs, ⁷⁵and Hukok with its suburbs, and Rehob with its suburbs; ⁷⁶and out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its suburbs, and Hammon with its suburbs, and Kiriathaim with its suburbs.

Matthew Chapter 11

¹⁶"But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions ¹⁷and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you didn't dance. We mourned for you, and you didn't lament.' ¹⁸For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' ¹⁹The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is justified by her children." ²⁰Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty acts had been done, because they didn't repent.

²¹"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty acts had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

²²But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

²³You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades. For if the mighty acts had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until today.

²⁴But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you." ²⁵At that time, Jesus answered, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.

²⁶Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.

²⁷All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.

²⁸"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

²⁹Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

³⁰For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Matthew Chapter 12

¹At that time, Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the grain fields. His disciples were hungry and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.

²But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said to him, "Behold, your disciples do what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath." ³But he said to them, "Haven't you read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: ⁴how he entered into God's house and ate the show bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?

⁵Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath day the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless?

⁶But I tell you that one greater than the temple is here.

⁷But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you wouldn't have condemned the guiltless.

⁸For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."
