Deuteronomy 12:29-13:11

15 verses

Deuteronomy Chapter 12

29When ForeverOne your God shall cut off the nations from before you, where you go in to dispossess them, and you dispossess them, and dwell in their land; 30take heed to yourself that you not be ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before you; and that you not inquire after their gods, saying, "How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise." 31You shall not do so to ForeverOne your God: for every abomination to ForeverOne, which he hates, have they done to their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods.

32Whatever thing I command you, that you shall observe to do: you shall not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

Deuteronomy Chapter 13

1If there arise in the midst of you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and he give you a sign or a wonder, 2and the sign or the wonder come to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, "Let us go after other gods" (which you have not known) "and let us serve them;" 3you shall not listen to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams: for ForeverOne your God proves you, to know whether you love ForeverOne your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

4You shall walk after ForeverOne your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and you shall serve him, and cling to him.

5That prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death, because he has spoken rebellion against ForeverOne your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to draw you aside out of the way which ForeverOne your God commanded you to walk in. So you shall put away the evil from the midst of you.

6If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend, who is as your own soul, entice you secretly, saying, "Let us go and serve other gods," which you have not known, you, nor your fathers; 7of the gods of the peoples who are around you, near to you, or far off from you, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth; 8you shall not consent to him, nor listen to him; neither shall your eye pity him, neither shall you spare, neither shall you conceal him: 9but you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first on him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

10You shall stone him to death with stones, because he has sought to draw you away from ForeverOne your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

11All Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall not do any more such wickedness as this is in the midst of you.

Hosea 4:12-6:6

29 verses

Hosea Chapter 4

12My people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have been unfaithful to their God.

13They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because its shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the prostitute, and your brides commit adultery.

14I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, nor your brides when they commit adultery; because the men consort with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with the shrine prostitutes; so the people without understanding will come to ruin.

15"Though you, Israel, play the prostitute, yet don't let Judah offend; and don't come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beth Aven, nor swear, 'As ForeverOne lives.' 16For Israel has behaved extremely stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer. Then how will ForeverOne feed them like a lamb in a meadow.

17Ephraim is joined to idols. Leave him alone!

18Their drink has become sour. They play the prostitute continually. Her rulers dearly love their shameful way.

19The wind has wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be disappointed because of their sacrifices.

Hosea Chapter 5

1"Listen to this, you priests! Listen, house of Israel, and give ear, house of the king! For the judgment is against you; for you have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread on Tabor.

2The rebels are deep in slaughter; but I discipline all of them.

3I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from me; for now, Ephraim, you have played the prostitute. Israel is defiled.

4Their deeds won't allow them to turn to their God; for the spirit of prostitution is within them, and they don't know ForeverOne.

5The pride of Israel testifies to his face. Therefore Israel and Ephraim will stumble in their iniquity. Judah also will stumble with them.

6They will go with their flocks and with their herds to seek ForeverOne; but they won't find him. He has withdrawn himself from them.

7They are unfaithful to ForeverOne; for they have borne illegitimate children. Now the new moon will devour them with their fields.

8"Blow the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah! Sound a battle cry at Beth Aven, behind you, Benjamin!

9Ephraim will become a desolation in the day of rebuke. Among the tribes of Israel, I have made known that which will surely be.

10The princes of Judah are like those who remove a landmark. I will pour out my wrath on them like water.

11Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment; Because he is intent in his pursuit of idols.

12Therefore I am to Ephraim like a moth, and to the house of Judah like rottenness.

13"When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to king Jareb: but he is not able to heal you, neither will he cure you of your wound.

14For I will be to Ephraim like a lion, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I myself will tear in pieces and go away. I will carry off, and there will be no one to deliver.

15I will go and return to my place, until they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly."

Hosea Chapter 6

1"Come, and let us return to ForeverOne; for he has torn us to pieces, and he will heal us; he has injured us, and he will bind up our wounds.

2After two days he will revive us. On the third day he will raise us up, and we will live before him.

3Let us acknowledge ForeverOne. Let us press on to know ForeverOne. As surely as the sun rises, ForeverOne will appear. He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain that waters the earth." 4"Ephraim, what shall I do to you? Judah, what shall I do to you? For your love is like a morning cloud, and like the dew that disappears early.

5Therefore I have cut them to pieces with the prophets; I killed them with the words of my mouth. Your judgments are like a flash of lightning.

6For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

Section 3

Ecclesiastes 8:2-9:3

19 verses

Ecclesiastes Chapter 8

2I say, "Keep the king's command!" because of the oath to God.

3Don't be hasty to go out of his presence. Don't persist in an evil thing, for he does whatever pleases him, 4for the king's word is supreme. Who can say to him, "What are you doing?" 5Whoever keeps the commandment shall not come to harm, and his wise heart will know the time and procedure.

6For there is a time and procedure for every purpose, although the misery of man is heavy on him.

7For he doesn't know that which will be; for who can tell him how it will be?

8There is no man who has power over the spirit to contain the spirit; neither does he have power over the day of death. There is no discharge in war; neither shall wickedness deliver those who practice it.

9All this have I seen, and applied my mind to every work that is done under the sun. There is a time in which one man has power over another to his hurt.

10So I saw the wicked buried. Indeed they came also from holiness. They went and were forgotten in the city where they did this. This also is vanity.

11Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

12Though a sinner commits crimes a hundred times, and lives long, yet surely I know that it will be better with those who fear God, who are reverent before him.

13But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he lengthen days like a shadow; because he doesn't fear God.

14There is a vanity which is done on the earth, that there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked. Again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

15Then I commended mirth, because a man has no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be joyful: for that will accompany him in his labor all the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.

16When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done on the earth (for also there is that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes), 17then I saw all the work of God, that man can't find out the work that is done under the sun, because however much a man labors to seek it out, yet he won't find it. Yes even though a wise man thinks he can comprehend it, he won't be able to find it.

Ecclesiastes Chapter 9

1For all this I laid to my heart, even to explore all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it is love or hatred, man doesn't know it; all is before them.

2All things come alike to all. There is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good, to the clean, to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn't sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who takes an oath, as he who fears an oath.

3This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all: yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

1 Peter 1:1-21

21 verses

1 Peter Chapter 1

1Peter, an apostle of Jesus AnointedOne, to the chosen ones who are living as foreigners in the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus AnointedOne and be sprinkled with his blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus AnointedOne, who according to his great mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus AnointedOne from the dead, 4to a permanent and undefiled inheritance that doesn't fade away, reserved in Heaven for you, 5who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved in various trials, 7that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus AnointedOne - 8whom, not having known, you love. In him, though now you don't see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy that is unspeakable and full of glory, 9receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, prophesying of the grace that would come to you, 11searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of the AnointedOne, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of the AnointedOne, and the glories that would follow them.

12To them it was revealed, that they served not themselves, but you, in these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

13So prepare your minds for action; be sober and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus AnointedOne - 14as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance, 15but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior; 16because it is written, "You shall be holy; for I am holy." 17If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man's work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear, 18knowing that you were, not with temporary silver or gold, redeemed from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, 19but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of the AnointedOne; 20who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake, 21who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.
