1TheIAM (Yahweh) spoke to Moses, saying, 2"Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, 'When a man makes a vow, the persons shall be for TheIAM (Yahweh) by your valuation. 3Your valuation shall be of a male from twenty years old even to sixty years old, even your valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary. 4If it is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels. 5If the person is from five years old even to twenty years old, then your valuation shall be for a male twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels. 6If the person is from a month old even to five years old, then your valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver. 7If the person is from sixty years old and upward; if it is a male, then your valuation shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels. 8But if he is poorer than your valuation, then he shall be set before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to the ability of him who vowed shall the priest value him. 9"'If it is an animal, of which men offer an offering to TheIAM (Yahweh) , all that any man gives of such to TheIAM (Yahweh) becomes holy. 10He shall not alter it, nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good: and if he shall at all change animal for animal, then both it and that for which it is changed shall be holy. 11If it is any unclean animal, of which they do not offer as an offering to TheIAM (Yahweh) , then he shall set the animal before the priest; 12and the priest shall value it, whether it is good or bad. As you the priest values it, so shall it be. 13But if he will indeed redeem it, then he shall add the fifth part of it to its valuation. 14"'When a man dedicates his house to be holy to TheIAM (Yahweh) , then the priest shall evaluate it, whether it is good or bad: as the priest shall evaluate it, so shall it stand. 15If he who dedicates it will redeem his house, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of your valuation to it, and it shall be his. 16"'If a man dedicates to TheIAM (Yahweh) part of the field of his possession, then your valuation shall be according to the seed for it: the sowing of a homer of barley shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver. 17If he dedicates his field from the Year of Jubilee, according to your valuation it shall stand. 18But if he dedicates his field after the Jubilee, then the priest shall reckon to him the money according to the years that remain to the Year of Jubilee; and an abatement shall be made from your valuation. 19If he who dedicated the field will indeed redeem it, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of your valuation to it, and it shall remain his. 20If he will not redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed any more; 21but the field, when it goes out in the Jubilee, shall be holy to TheIAM (Yahweh) , as a field devoted; it shall be owned by the priests. 22"'If he dedicates to TheIAM (Yahweh) a field which he has bought, which is not of the field of his possession, 23then the priest shall reckon to him the worth of your valuation up to the Year of Jubilee; and he shall give your valuation on that day, as a holy thing to TheIAM (Yahweh) . 24In the Year of Jubilee the field shall return to him from whom it was bought, even to him to whom the possession of the land belongs. 25All your valuations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs to the shekel. 26"'Only the firstborn among animals, which is made a firstborn to TheIAM (Yahweh) , no man may dedicate it; whether an ox or sheep, it is TheIAM (Yahweh) 's. 27If it is an unclean animal, then he shall buy it back according to your valuation, and shall add to it the fifth part of it: or if it isn't redeemed, then it shall be sold according to your valuation. 28"'Notwithstanding, no devoted thing, that a man shall devote to TheIAM (Yahweh) of all that he has, whether of man or animal, or of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy to TheIAM (Yahweh) . 29"'No one devoted, who shall be devoted from among men, shall be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death. 30"'All the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is TheIAM (Yahweh) 's. It is holy to TheIAM (Yahweh) . 31If a man redeems anything of his tithe, he shall add a fifth part to it. 32All the tithe of the herds or the flocks, whatever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy to TheIAM (Yahweh) . 33He shall not search whether it is good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he changes it at all, then both it and that for which it is changed shall be holy. It shall not be redeemed.'" 34These are the commandments which TheIAM (Yahweh) commanded Moses for the children of Israel on Mount Sinai.
1The word of TheIAM (Yahweh) came to me, saying, 2"Go, and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, 'Thus says TheIAM (Yahweh) , "I remember for you the kindness of your youth, the love of your weddings; how you went after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown. 3Israel [was] holiness to TheIAM (Yahweh) , the first fruits of his increase. All who devour him shall be held guilty. Evil shall come on them,"' says TheIAM (Yahweh) ." 4Hear the word of TheIAM (Yahweh) , O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel! 5Thus says TheIAM (Yahweh) , "What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they have gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? 6Neither did they say, 'Where is TheIAM (Yahweh) who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that none passed through, and where no man lived?' 7I brought you into a plentiful land, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination. 8The priests didn't say, 'Where is TheIAM (Yahweh) ?' and those who handle the law didn't know me. The rulers also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit. 9"Therefore I will yet contend with you," says TheIAM (Yahweh) , "and I will contend with your children's children. 10For pass over to the islands of Kittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and consider diligently; and see if there has been such a thing. 11Has a nation changed [its] gods (Elohim) , which really are no gods (Elohim) ? But my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. 12"Be astonished, you heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid. Be very desolate," says TheIAM (Yahweh) . 13"For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. 14Is Israel a servant? Is he a native-born [slave]? Why has he become a prey? 15The young lions have roared at him, and yelled. They have made his land waste. His cities are burned up, without inhabitant. 16The children also of Memphis and Tahpanhes have broken the crown of your head. 17"Haven't you procured this to yourself, in that you have forsaken TheIAM (Yahweh) your God (Elohim) , when he led you by the way? 18Now what have you to do in the way to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? Or what have you to do in the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River? 19"Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backsliding shall reprove you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that you have forsaken TheIAM (Yahweh) your God (Elohim) , and that my fear is not in you," says the Lord (Adonai) , TheIAM (Yahweh) of Armies. 20"For of old time I have broken your yoke, and burst your bonds; and you said, 'I will not serve;' for on every high hill and under every green tree you bowed yourself, playing the prostitute. 21Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine to me? 22For though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me," says the Lord (Adonai) TheIAM (Yahweh) . 23"How can you say, 'I am not defiled. I have not gone after the Baals'? See your way in the valley. Know what you have done. [You are] a swift dromedary traversing her ways; 24a wild donkey used to the wilderness, that snuffs up the wind in her desire. When she is in heat, who can turn her away? All those who seek her will not weary themselves. In her month, they will find her. 25"Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst. But you said, 'It is in vain. No, for I have loved strangers, and I will go after them.' 26As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets; 27who tell wood, 'You are my father;' and a stone, 'You have brought me out:' for they have turned their back to me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say, 'Arise, and save us.' 28"But where are your gods (Elohim) that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble: for according to the number of your cities are your gods (Elohim) , Judah. 29"Why will you contend with me? You all have transgressed against me," says TheIAM (Yahweh) . 30"I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion. 31Generation, consider the word of TheIAM (Yahweh) . Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why do my people say, 'We have broken loose. We will come to you no more?' 32"Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me for days without number. 33How well you prepare your way to seek love! Therefore you have taught even the wicked women your ways. 34Also the blood of the souls of the innocent poor is found in your skirts. You did not find them breaking in; but it is because of all these things. 35"Yet you said, 'I am innocent. Surely his anger has turned away from me.' "Behold, I will judge you, because you say, 'I have not sinned.' 36Why do you go about so much to change your way? You will be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Assyria. 37From there also you shall go forth, with your hands on your head; for TheIAM (Yahweh) has rejected those in whom you trust, and you shall not prosper with them.
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. 1Hear this, all you peoples. Listen, all you inhabitants of the world, 2both low and high, rich and poor together. 3My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart shall utter understanding. 4I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will open my riddle on the harp. 5Why should I fear in the days of evil, when iniquity at my heels surrounds me? 6Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches - 7none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give God (Elohim) a ransom for him. 8For the redemption of their life is costly, no payment is ever enough, 9That he should live on forever, that he should not see corruption. 10For he sees that wise men die; likewise the fool and the senseless perish, and leave their wealth to others. 11Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves. 12But man, despite his riches, doesn't endure. He is like the animals that perish. 13This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah. 14They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd. The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. Their beauty shall decay in Sheol, far from their mansion. 15But God (Elohim) will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah. 16Don't be afraid when a man is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased. 17For when he dies he shall carry nothing away. His glory shall not descend after him. 18Though while he lived he blessed his soul - and men praise you when you do well for yourself - 19he shall go to the generation of his fathers. They shall never see the light. 20A man who has riches without understanding, is like the animals that perish.
A Psalm by Asaph. 1The-Mighty-One (El) , God (Elohim) , TheIAM (Yahweh) , speaks, and calls the earth from sunrise to sunset. 2Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God (Elohim) shines forth. 3Our God (Elohim) comes, and does not keep silent. A fire devours before him. It is very stormy around him. 4He calls to the heavens above, to the earth, that he may judge his people: 5"Gather my saints together to me, those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice." 6The heavens shall declare his righteousness, for God (Elohim) himself is judge. Selah.
26For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. 27Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error. 28Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers, 30backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.
1Therefore you are without excuse, O man, whoever you are who judge. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practice the same things. 2We know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. 3Do you think this, O man who judges those who practice such things, and do the same, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath, revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God; 6who "will pay back to everyone according to their works:" 7to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory, honor, and incorruptibility, eternal life; 8but to those who are self-seeking, and don't obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath and indignation, 9oppression and anguish, on every soul of man who works evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 10But glory, honor, and peace go to every man who works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 11For there is no partiality with God. 12For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13For it isn't the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified 14(for when Gentiles who don't have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying with them, and their thoughts among themselves accusing or else excusing them) 16in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my Good News, by Jesus Christ.
